We are now approaching Kerpen, Germany. It was a misty Friday morning. The time was about 7:15 am, and we were marching into Kerpen. Unaware of what would happen later on in the week. The Germans had opened concentration camps again. The Sergeant major shouted “HALT!! Get down, take cover!!” I frantically raced to the ditch in the side of the road. I looked to my right to see a cemetery. With a familiar grave. It was Lieutenant S. Jaht. The man who started this battle. I turned back to see a crimson colour on the person next to me. There was blood dripping down his leg.
